Impact of 2?-Fucosyllactose on Gut Microbiota Composition in Adults with Chronic Gastrointestinal Conditions: Batch Culture Fermentation Model and Pilot Clinical Trial Findings

چکیده

Intestinal dysbiosis has been described in patients with certain gastrointestinal conditions including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and ulcerative colitis. 2?-fucosyllactose (2?-FL), a prebiotic human milk oligosaccharide, is considered bifidogenic butyrogenic. To assess effects of 2?-FL, alone or combination probiotic strains (potential synbiotics), vitro experiments were conducted on stool from healthy, IBS, colitis adult donors. In anaerobic batch culture fermenters, Bifidobacterium Eubacterium rectale-Clostridium coccoides counts, short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) butyrate increased during fermentation 2?-FL some the 2?-FL/probiotic combinations. subsequent open-label pilot trial, effect 2?-FL-containing nutritional formula was evaluated twelve adults IBS Gastrointestinal Quality Life Index (GIQLI) total symptoms domain scores, counts Faecalibacterium prausnitzii, SCFAs butyrate, after six weeks intervention. Consistent documented demonstrated butyrogenic samples. Consumption by associated improvements intra- extra-intestinal symptoms, effects.

Gut Microbiota Composition in Obese and Normal Weight Adults in Iran

Background and purpose: Increasing prevalence of obesity over the past few decades constitutes a global health challenge. Recent evidence suggests that gut microbiota may contribute to weight control. So, the present study aimed at comparing the frequency of different bacteria in gut microbiota between obese and normal weight people in Iran. Materials and methods: Thirty normal weight (BMI of ...

Correlation of gut microbiota composition with colon adenomatous polyps

Microbiota is a collection of microorganisms that live in the oral cavity, respiratory tract and intestine of multicellular organisms. Microbiota exerts numerous physiological and pathological effects on the organism in which it resides. Increasing attention has been directed to the host-microbiota interaction, which is highly relevant to the development of carcinogenesis. Changes in the compos...

Impact of the Gut Microbiota on Vaccine Responses

Non-responsiveness or poor responsiveness to vaccines are challenging issues in vaccine development, and efforts have been made to find out the potential reasons for these conditions. Intestinal microbiome plays a key role in regulating and development of immune system and the composition and diversity of microbiota in different individuals on the one hand, and the imbalance of intestinal micro...

Discrepancies in microbiota composition along the pig gastrointestinal tract between in vivo observations and an in vitro batch fermentation model.

In vitro fermentation models are increasingly used to assess prebiotic potential of novel indigestible carbohydrates (CHO). A trial was performed to assess the validity of such approaches by comparing the influence of fermentation of inulin and cellulose on microbiota in vivo and in vitro. Two semipurified diets based on 5% inulin or 5% cellulose were fed to 2 groups of four 25-kg pigs. After 3...

Changes in the composition and function of the gut microbiota in celiac disease

Evidence is supported the hypothesis that any changes in the composition and function of the gut microbiota play a fundamental role in a number of chronic inflammatory diseases including celiac disease (CD). In the last decade, several culture-independent methods have been developed to identify the components of the human microbiome. The study of microbiota based on nucleic acid analysis found ...
